Viscount Cowdray died last night in his sleep. Lord Cowdray was in poor health for several months, suffering from heart trouble, but was well enough, to travel to Aberdeen where ho was to receive the Freedom of the City, with Lady Cowdray, on Tuesday. It was unique for husband and wife to be thus honoured simultaneously, but jointly they have given £lOO,OOO to hospitals, the University and other local objects. The day, indeed the very hour, of the intended honour will now bo the time of the funeral. Born in 1856, Lord Cowdray was in his 72nd year. He was head of the firm of S. Pearson and Son, Ltd., of which his grandfather was the founder, and was created a baronet in 1894, a baron in 1910 f and was raised to the peerage in 1916 as first Viscount Cowdray. In 1917 Lord Cowdray was President of the Air Board, and was Rector of Aberdeen University from 1918 to 1921. For fifteen years, from 1895 to 1910, he was Liberal member for Colchester. Viscount Cowdray was noted for his many generous gifts for University and charitable objects.
