SKINS, HIDES AND TALLOW

SALE AT WELLINGTON. (Special to “Chronicle.”) WELLINGTON, April 30< The Wellington skins, hides and tallow merchants report having held their fortnightly sialo yesterday, when a fair catalogue was offered to a representative bench of buyers. For sheepskins bidding was fairly spirited, and values for dry skins were firm at late rates, with an occasional rise for good lines. Saltcds were iu keen demand and appreciated by 3d to 6d each. There was a good market for all descriptions of hides, values showing an advance of id per lb on previous quoted rates; yearling, kip and calf were about on a par. Tallow met a good enquiry, prices showing an advance on liate rates. The following is the range of prices:— Sheepskins.—Half bred, not quoted; line crossbred, ll|d to 13d; medium to coarse crossbred, 9d to ll£d; short to half wools, 9|d to Hid; lambs, ssd to 12jd; dead and damaged crossbred, 7fd to lOd; inferior and badly damtiged, 3£d to B£d; pelts, 7d 1o 9;}d; damp, waited, and green, 5s to 8s 6d; pelts, salted, 3s 6d; lambs, salted, 4s 6d to 5s Bd. Hides.—Ox: Heavy, extra, 701bs and over, lOd to 10-jd; heavy, 59 to 691bs, 8 l-8d to lOd; medium, 53 to 581bs, 8 7-8 d to 9d; light, 45 to 52lbs, 8d to 8 5-8 d; cut, slippy and inferior, 5 5-8 d

to 7d. Cow: Heavy, 531bs and over. to Bjd; medium, 45 to 521bs, 7£d to 7 7-8 d; light, 33 to 441bs, 6 3-8 d to 8d; cut, slippy and inferior, 3d to 7 3-Scl. Bull stag, 3 l-8d to 5 5-8 d; yelarlings. 11 to 161bs, 7 7-8 d to 8 l-8d; 17 to 32 lbs, 8d; calf, superior, up to ]olbs, not quoted; calf, medium to good, up to lOlbs, B£d to 11 7-8 d; calf, damaged, up to lOlbs, 4d to 9|d.

Tallow. —In casks, 25s 6d to 27s 9d in tins, etc., 19s to 275. Sundries.—Horse hair, 23d to 25cl cow tails, to 16d.
