MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS

WEDNESDAY’S POLLING RESULTS FROM OTHER CENTRES The following results of municipal elections held throughout the Dominion on Wednesday, in addition to those published in yesterday's “Chronicle,” are supplied by the New Zealand Press Association. Fending. Mayoralty.—Mr E. Fair was elected Mayor unopposed. On the half holiday question the electors decided to revert to Wednesday, the voting being: Wednesday 909, Saturday 321. Stratford. Mayoralty.—J. W McMillan ( sitting) was returned by a substantial majority over ex-Councillor Finnerty. Foxton. Mayoralty.—M. E. Perreau, (re-elect-ed unopposed). Councillors. —F. Parkin, J. Ross, C. Rand, E. Cowley, F. Lucinsky, M. Walker, R. Thompson, C. Spring, B. Rangiheuea. Harbour Board.—H. Berry, J. Chrystall. Horowhenua Power Board.—R. Bryant (unopposed). Levin. There were thirteen candidates for the Borough Council, the following being elected. —Kedwell, Mortensen, Goldsmith, Roe, Bishop, Hutchings, Parker, Harvey and Falloon. The Mayor, Mr Hobson, was re-elect-ed unopposed. Otaki. Mayoralty.—Mr Brandon was reelected. Councillors.—Morse, Cockrell, Smith, O ’Rourke, McGill and Ryder. Wellington. Councillors.—T. C. A. Hislop, W. J. Gaudin, G, Mitchell, W. H. Bennett, R. Semple, H. A. R. Higgins, J. Caughley, R. W. MeVilly, F. -Meadowcroft, J. Burns, H. D. Bennett, R. MeKeen, B. G. H. Burn, J. Aston. The proposal that Wellington rates be levied wholly on unimproved values was carried by 8334 votes to 4262.

Hospital Board.—H. Van Staveren, C. M. Luke, F. Castle, Annie McVicar, W. Appleton, J. G. Petherick, F. Bonnett, Janet Fraser, Jane K. Preston, D. Campbell, J. H. Helliwell, H. A. Parkinson, Margaret Semple, and T. H. Gill. Christchurch. For the City Council the figures show that Labour has eleven seats and the Citizens’ Association five, a complete reversal of the position of the previous Council. Successful candidates are: D. G. Sullivan (Lab.), Mrs E. R. McCombs (Lab.), H. T. Armstrong (Lab.). C. L. Carr (Lab.), Mrs A. E. Herbert (C.A.), F. R. Cooke (Lab.), J. W. Bean land (C A.), G. R. Hunter (Lab), T. M. Butterfield (Lab.), R. M. Macfarlane (Lab.), A. AV. Beavcn (C.A.), J. W. Roberts (Lab.), G. Manning (Lab.), M. F. Lyons (C.A.), E. H. Andrews (C.A.), P. N. Sharpe (Lab.). For the North Canterbury Hospital Board the following were elected.—J. K. Archer, Mrs McCombs, Mrs Green. Rev. C. Carr (all Labour), Mrs Herbert, Mrs Roberts, D. N. Foster and Dr Acland (all Citizens’ Association). For the Lyttelton Harbour Board the following were elected:—H. T. Armstrong, E e J. Howard (both Labour), H. Holland, J. R. Hospital Board.—Coleman, Sherratt, Bayliss, Craig, and Mrs Scott. There is a possibility of the Hospital Board election being nullified owing to a defect in the voting paper. Blenheim. Mrs F. Redwood, Blenheim’s lady councillor, was defeated at the Municipal election, but was elected as Borough representative on the Hospital Board. Carterton. Mayoralty.—W Fisher (unopposed). Only six councillors were nominated for nine vacancies. The following were declared elected:—A. AV. Broadbent, J. L. Churchouse, C. Hugan, T. H. Hughes. A. J. Parton, J. Preddy. The nominations for three vacancies close to-mor-row. The poll on the weekly-half-holiday resulted: Saturday 411, Thursday 202, informal 13. On the poll for a loan of £B5OO to improve the high-pressure supply the voting was: For 284, against 157; informal 8. Hastings. For the Council all the retiring members were re-elected with the exception of Cohr and Hay, who were replaced by A. I. Rainbow and R. Henderson. Hospital Board.—George Maddison, Gilbert, McKay. Power Board. —Maddison, Scott and Phillips. Harbour Board.—Lowe 1680 defeated Lassen 704. Wednesday half-holiday was retained by 1665 against 704 votes.
