A constable patrolling Albert Street near midnight found evidence of an attempt to force the front door of Malcolm and AViseman’s. Ltd., tobacconist and sports depot. A posse of police surrounded the buildings. The front door was forced open by a heavyweight policeman who found an attempt had been made to break through a concrete wall of tho adjoining building, but had failed. An attempt also had been made to use the lift. There was no evidence of removal of any goods, or indications pointing to burglars having been disturbed.
