BAND CONTESTS
CHAMPIONSHIP POINTS SUGGESTED FOR ALTERATION For some years dissatisfaction has existed over the allotment of points for the winning of championship shields at New Zealand band contests. At present most of the shields are won by the band gaining most points in tie two test selections and the music points in tho quickstep. The new North Island Brass Band Asociation has resolved to improve the conditions regarding the shield, and ar a recent meeting decided that in future the championship should bo decided on the aggregate points in tho two tests alone, the quickstep music points not to count. This has been recommended to the South Island Bands Association for approval, and if the suggestion vs adopted it will become one of the conditions at future contests. At the exhibition contest held in Dunedin last year tho Wanagnui Garrison Band won the two test selections but failed to gain a place in the quickstep, and a band which had mn second and third in the test selections able to win tho championship shields. The new move will moot with approval among the bands of the Dominion.
