FOUND DROWNED
OLD MAN’S DEATH INQUEST ON FREDERICK AVAN! An inquest into the circumstanced concerning the death of Frederick James Avant, who disappeared from his home in Smithfield Road last Thursday and his body being found in the river on Saturday, was held at the Courthouse yesterday afternoon by the Coroner, Mr J. S. Barton. Evidence was given that deceased was 65 years of age. Ho left his home shortly after ten o’clock tn join in the public welcome to the Duke'and Duchess of York, but did not return home. [Deceased occasionally suffered from blood pressure in the’head. Evidence regarding the recovery of tho body from tho Wanganui River, opposite tho town wharf, was given byConstable Johnson. There were no marks on the body. A verdict of drowning was returned by the Coroner. There was no evidence to show how deceased got into the water.
