FAREWELL TO FATHER PHELAN [ From the " Chronicle’s ** Special Correspondent. ] On Friday evening a farewell social was tendered to the Rev. Father Phelan Parish Priest, by his parishioners, on the eve of his departure for the Old Country on holiday. The Forresters' Hall, which was lent for the occasion, was crowded with well-wishers. Mr George Williams occupied the chair. He. read a very appropriate address and presented the Rev. Father Phelan with a well-filled wallet, as a token of the very great esteem in which he is held by his parishioners. Messrs Cronin and Hurley also spoke in very complimentary terms of their guest. The Rev. Monsignor Power, Dean in charge of the district, was present and in his address left no doubt in the minds of those present, of the high esteem in which Rev. Phelan is held by his fellow clergy. i In replying. Father Phelan, thanked ■ all present for the handsome gift and i the various speakers for their kind re1 marks and made special mention of the very tolerant spirit he had found 1 amongst all classes in Patna. During the evening a musical programme enjoyed, the following ladies and gentlemen contributing—Piano solo, Miss Read; songs by Misses M. Brennan. M. Hurley. F. Boagey, P. Bourke, and Messrs J. Crawford. C. Sheahan, F. Parsons. J. Haworth and W. Morse an<7 a recitation by Mr Whittington. After a soumptious supper, provided by the ladies of the parish, the gathering broke up. Father Phelan leaves on his holiday
