There were competitors from Wanganui, Mastcrion, Wellington, Marton, Dannevirke and neighbouring districts. Rose won the mile handicap in 4 23 4-5, shepherding the field to the last lap, where he got a handy position, e. rawing out to run home, winning comfortably by three yards. Oakley (Mastcrion), from 15 yards behind, won the mile cycle, in 2 18 4-5, and the two miles (3G yards behind), tn 5 52 1-5. C. J. Robertson (Hastings) won ttrc 220 yards handicap. The 880 yards was won by 11. .1. McKenna (Dannevirke), Verry (Hastings) being second. Newton (Wanganui) was just beaten for third place Campbell, of Hastings. Time: 2 0 1-5. GOOD PERFORMANCES BY N.S.W. CHAMPIONS Received March 6. 5.5 p.m. SYDNEY, March 6. The New South Wales amateur championship meeting was largely spoiled by rain. Results: — Putting 161 b. Shot. —G Lewis (Queensland) defeated A. G. Mclntosh (Australasian champion), covering 42 'feet 54 inches. In the hundred yards junior events A. McKinnor. aged 15, took 10 2-5, clipping one-fifth off Carlton’s record. In the one mile run B. W. Clarke made a new championship record of 4min. 48sec. These are outstanding features of the meeting.
