LIFE SAVING CASTLECLIFF SURF CLUB ; PRESIDENT’S SHIELD CONTEST There was a large attendance of the 'public at Castlecliff during the weekj end. when the Castlecliff Surf section .'of the Royal Life Saving Society held its annual competition for the President s Cup. The event was for 4-man teams with a run-out reel. Results were as follows: Bird, Techbon, Whyman, ,T. Manley (captain) 85 points 1; L. Fromont’s team, 8U points, 2; R. Gilberd’s team. 81 points, 3. Also competed: Currie’s team 79 points, E. Gilberd’s team 78 points, P. Stiver’s team 71 points. The four-man run-out event is an emergency substitution for the sevenman reel event, and was highly interesting. One man acted as subject, one went in the belt, one on the line, and one looked a *Lrr the reel. The standard in the President’s Cup was very good, and Afanley’s team put up a fine exhibition. The cup was presented to the winners after the event by Mrs D. Robbins, wife of the president, and the teams were entertained to afternoon tea. The officials were: Messrs H. W. Cooper, Ralph Brown and E. Crotty (judges), and Afr G. Caiman (timekeeper). Next week the big competition for the Hackshaw, Searle Shield will take place.
