POSITION OF THE FRANC UNEMPLOYED MAKE demonstration. PARIS, Feb. 19. “I defy anyone to say that the franc can be stabilised at present.” This was how M. Poincare met the insistant demands of the Chamber that something should bo done towards the “stabilisation demands and numerous conditions which have not yet been fulfilled.” .Simultaneous with this announcement came the unemployed returns showing an inerdase of 10,000 i n one week. The total in Paris alone is 33,000, and demonstrations arc more frequent. Several to-night led to minor clashes with the police.
