A MINE STOPPAGE
MEN’S PAY SUFFERS WORK AT A STANDSTILL. [ Per Press Association. ] GREYMOUTH, Feb. 21. Last Thursday week the fan stopped working in the middle brake section of the Rewanui State Mine, causing the men to lose one hour. The pay for the lost time was deducted by the management and the men protested, on the ground that the stoppage was no fault of their own. Under the circumstances they contended that the deduction from the pay was a bretach of the agreement and sent a deputation to the management with a request for a refund. This was refused and at a stop-work meeting his morning the miners resolved to cease work until their request was granted. The men in No. 1 section have h.lso ceased work in sympathy.
