SITUATION IN WELLINGTON GOVERNMENT MAY BE ASKED FOR HELP [ Per Press Association. ] WELLINGTON, Feb. 21. Though perhaps the unemployment position was not so serious in Wellington as in certain other centres, remarked the Mayor (Mr C. J. B. Norwood), to-day the position was still bad enough. Many willing ablebodied mon genuinely could not find work. If the position became acute he would approach the Government for authority to raise further special loans for relief work. REDS AT CHRISTCHURCH DEMONSTRATION PLANNED FOR DUKE. (Per Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, Feb. 21. It was stated at a meeting of unemployed to-day that the Red element, members who have been ejected from the ranks of those styling themselves the genuine unemployed, intend making a demonstration when the Duke of York visits. BOROUGH RELIEF WORKS WHANGAREI PROPOSALS. (Per Press Association.) WHANGAREI, Feb. 21One hundred unemployed—6o labour ers and 40 tradesmen—were represented by a deputation to the Borough Council to-day, asking that relief work be in stituted, with the aid of Governmeol loans if necessary. A scheme is to be prepared by the works committee for early consideration.
