NEW ZEALAND FARMEES’ UNION [ From the “ Chronicle’s ” Special Correspondent ] On Wednesday afternoon Miss Simpson, president of Marton branch of the Women’s Division of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union, gave a most enjoyable garden party at ‘Closeburn,” Bonny Glen. The following members of tho committee were in attendance: Mesdames E. L. Briant, F. R. H. Brice, D. G. Friedrich, J. Lourie, McPherson, A. Stuart, W. F. Stevens and D. Simpson (secretary), Mrs D. McLean being unavoidably absent. Other visitors pregarden party at “Closeburn,” Bonny J. and N. Kebbel (Bulls) and Mr and Mrs Polson and Mesdames Lilburn and R L. Gibson (Wanganui). Eleven new members were enrolled during the afternoon, thus making the total membership 65. A suggestion was put forward that the ladies of Bulls district should amalgamate with the Marton branch and form a larger branch known as the Bangitikei branch. GBEATFOBD ATHLETIC SPORTS A meeting of Greatford residents was held in the schoolroom to discuss matters in connection with the athletic association, Mr G. Lewis presiding over an enthusiastic attendance. It was resolved to hold a sports meeting on Wednesday, March 16. The events lare all for amateur competitors and the secretary was instructed to apply to the West Coast Centre fur affiliation to the Amateur Athletic Association. There will be a number of local chopping events ineluded in the programme. CRICKET HUNTERVILLE v. Watts 1 for 9. “THAT’S MY BABY” “That’s My Baby” (Douglas MacLean) is a farce-comedy, full of laughs, thrills and funny gags. Much of the important action is played against a background of a huge charity bazal&r. Oriental colour, picturesque Turkish costumes and dozens of lovely girls add a touch of extravagant beauty to the hilarious humour. It is to be screened at the Marton Town Hall to-night.
