The meeting was held for the purpose of "boosting” cycling in the Marton district, and the lappearance of the champions was awaited with considerable interest, but the public were doomed to disappointment for the riding of Spears, Nesbitt and Henderson was not even second class. The first event was la match between J. Henderson and R. Bland over 800 yards, which Hepderson won by a length in 64 l-ssec. The mile open handicap was won by J. H. Harcourt (Hamilton) off 90yd. in 2min. 19sec., with C. Jennings 90yd. second and K. Bland !20yd. third. L. E. Smith (120 yd C. Ehrhorn Und N. Cairncross (190 yd. also started. R. SpeUrs and H. W. Nesbitt then took the track for a two lap match, which Spears won in Imin. 11 4-ssec. It was a most uninteresting event Und a poor example of track riding. Later the riders had another "flutter,” and Spears passed the post an eUsy winner in Imin. Msec. The winner’s practice of looking round to see if his opponent was on the track was not an object lesson to young cyclists and if the meeting had been taken seriously should have certainly have been the means of placing Spears "on the mat.” A half-mile handicap resulted in J. H. Harcourt, 40yd. 1, C. Jennings 40yd. 2, and R. Bland. 40yd. 3. Time: lanin Bsec. G. Henderson (scr.) and L. E. Smith (40yd) also stUrted. The final race was a two-mile scratch race and H. W. Nesbitt, L. E. Smith, C. Jennings and J. H. Harcourt faced the starter. Smith wUs allowed to take the lead for six laps when Nesbitt, Jennings and Harcourt passed the leader, Harcourt shot to the front for the last lap and passed the post U winner by a couple of lengths from Jennings with Smith third, the time being 4min. 51sec‘.
