SCHOOL COMMITTEE 1 From the “ Chronicle’s ” Special Correspondent. ] A special meeting of the School Comj mittee was held on Monday evening. I There were present—Messrs O. E. List, I P. Henson, J. G. I It was decided that the annual school picnic be held on Friday. Marcn 4, on the recreation reserve, Owhango, and that the Convent school be asked ! to co-operate. I Members expressed a desire that every child attending the school should be given an opportunity to attend the picnic, and it was agreed to issue tic*- ■ ets to children of large families over a I 1 limit of three. Joblin) Le asked for i his support. j Discussion ensued with reference to the proposed schools carnival, and Messrs Binning and McGregor were deputed to organise meetings of the business sections of the commmunity at Ohakune and Junction ends respectively. It was pointed out that difficulty was anticipated in selecting a queen candidate to represent the farming and sawmilling community, and this matter was held in abeyance for the present, pending further enquiries. DENTAL CLINIC The conditions and regulations governing the establishment of school dental clinics, together with a brief outline of the policy of the Department regarding the extent and nature of the treatment given, was placed before the School Committee at the special meeting held on Monday evenI ing. and several members stressed the necessity of immediate steps being taken to equip the room acquired for the clinic, in the Plunket building. It was authoritatively stated that a nurse would arrive in Ohakune in April, and the opinion was expressed that an early endeavour should be made to provide facilities to meet the approval of the Department. A meeting of the committee has been called for Alonday evening next, when the matte r will be thoroughly discussed.
