TO-NIGHT’S MEETING WHEEL CHAMPIONS VISIT CITY Interesting cycling events will be staged at Cook’s Gardens this evening, when R. Spears, holder of the world’s championship Grand Prix de Itaris and other famous titles, will appear in a series of races. The Wanganui public will undoubtedly be interested in Spears’ performances in this city and a llarge number of enthusiasts is expected to be present. Spears will race a special match event against J. Henderson, the New Zealand champion, over a distance of half-ia-mile. Henderson’s appearance in this city will be of particular interest locally, for he was born in Wanganui, though he now resides in Christchurch. Besides the outstanding attraction of the main cycling events, there are also twenty other good wheel riaces. Spears, Henderson and Nesbitt will appear in the handicaps. A unique motor-paced exhibition of cycling will also be provided, when P. Coleman, of Wanganui, Dominion motorcycle champion, irill pace H. W. Nesbitt, interniational and Australian cycling champion. Nesbitt will also make an attempt to break D. Nicholson’s one-mile paced record of one minute 50 seconds.
