Air Vawdrey A. Brookie, of Wanganui h!as been appointed ranger for the Wanganui district under the Animals Protection and Games Act. Air Brookie will also act as an officer under the Fisheries Act.

Mr and Airs E. J. Hill and Air and Airs F. R. Marriott, of Wellington, arrived in Wanganui yesterday by car from Rotorua, and are staying at Foster’s Hotel. Alessrs Hill and Afarriott are well-known Dowlers, and had a game yesterday on the Wanganui Club’s green.

An Auckland message states that the Governor-General has relinquished the position of Dominion Chief Scout and president of tho council of the Boy Boy Scouts Association (New Zealand section). He consented to remain patron of the association and support the movement.

An Auckland message states that Sir Tom Bridges (Governor of South Australia) was a passenger by the liner Niagara to-day. He expects to spend a month in New Zealand on holiday, and ho is a guest at Government House. He intends to go deep-sea fishing at the Bay of ’lslands and will possibly make a visit to Rotorua.

The numerous Wanganui friends of Air G. F. Allen, one of the best known of our early settlers and now a resident of Alasterton, will be interested to know that he celebrates his 90th birthday to-day. Despite his advanced years, Air Allen is wonderfully well and active, while his interest in and grasp of events and affairs is as keen ias ever. The 11 Chronicle” heartily joins in the congratulations which to-day’s happy occasion will bring to our old friend.

Aliss Eva Webb-Jones, the possessor of a rich soprano voice admirably cultivated in the course of recent study at the Sydney Conservatorium, delighted members of the Wanganui Rotary Club with contributions to their weekly programme yesterday. In several numbers Aliss Webb-Jones revealed the flawless purity of her voice, its range and power, and the ease and grace with which the notes were produced. In “Vainka’s Song” (Stutzman), “The Rain Fairies” (Arundalc) and “Advice” (Alolly Carew) she pleased her hearers, but the gem of the lot was the aria, “One Fine Day,” from “Aladamo Butterfly” (Puccini), an exacting piece sung with a high degree of proficiency.
