SWIMMING
CASTLECLIFF SURF CLUB NELSON SHIELD TEAM CHOSEN After intensive trials the team to represent the Castlecliff Surf Club in the Nelson Shield match at New Plymouth on Saturday has been chosen. It has now been decided that the local representatives will be:—J. Manley (captain), L. Fromont, C. Stiver, P. Stiver, C. Quirke, E. Gilbcrd, P. James, and R. Waller. The competition, which was held last year at Napier, will be decided at Ngamotu Beach, New Plymouth, on Saturday. Numerous Dominion surf clubs yearly send teams to compete for the Ne’son Shield and the event is regarded by swimming enthusiasts as one of the most important of aquatic competitions. Keen interest is always aroused in the event and it is expected that the fixture will attract more public attention than in previous years. The Castlecliff team represents the final selection from a large number of Wanganui’s best-known surfers, and the chosen members are expected to uphold to the fullest degree Wanganui’s excellent swimming reputation.
