ON THE MOVE
HOLIDAY TRAVELLERS CHRISTMAS RAILWAY TRAFFIC, The number of booking* from Wanganui on the railways during the week preceding Christmas Day forms an interesting comparison with the number made in the corresponding period last year. This year’s figures show a substantial decrease in the number of passengers leaving the city, but the revenue is practically equal to that of last year. This is explained by the fact that holiday travellers this year have generally made longer journevs. Again, last year Boxing Day was included in Christmas week, and with its race meetings, there was a considerable number of passengers from the city. This year, however, Boxing Dav was observed in the week following Christmas Day and large numbers n? bookings were lost to the week’s total. Following is a table showing the corresponding figures:—
Relatively, tho ratio of the revenue to the number of passengers this year is much in advance of the ratio last vear.
Passengers. Revenue 1925 .. . 4758 £1594 1926 .. . . 3287 £1533
