CHRISTMAS MAILS

A POST OFFICE RUSH BUSINESS ON THE INCREASE. A heavy increase in business, chiefly on the mail side, marked the Christmas holiday returns of the Wanganui Post Office. The mail room staff was compelled to work at full pressure all the time'. The heaviest day was December 22, when 435 bags of mail were despatched and 411 received. All along the figures show big increases over those of the previous year. The stamps sales alone showed a falling off, compared with the previous year. The figures for 1926 show the. sale of £1122 10s worth of stamps, compared with £l3ll 6s for 1925. The following figures make interesting reading:—
