BREAKING CAMP
TERRITORIALS RETURN HOME .TROOP TRAIN FROM TRENTHAM. Just before 10 o’clock on Saturday night a long troop train drew into Wanganui, discharging a khaki freight comprising more than 500 Territorials, who had completed eight days* training at Trentham. The other 500 members of the Ist Battalion, Wellington and West Coast Regiment, which had been in camp since the previous week, were dropped at various points en route, many joining other trains bound for Main Trunk centres. The weather for the camp was not consistently good, but excellent work was accomplished. A feature was the work of the Regimental Band, under Lieut. J. Trussell, assisted by BandSergeant L. Comrie. The band not only earned general commendation for its playing, but also won the hut competition, with a record score, 40 points ahead of the nearest rival. On Thursday the camp was inspected by the Governor-General, Sir Charles Fergusson, and on Friday by General Young, Commandant of the New Zealand Forces. The Battalion w*on golden opinions for its smartness and steadiness, and His Excellency warmly congratulated the big parade.
