Mr J. Ellis, of Lower Hutt, is staying at the Rutland Hotel. Guests at the Rutland Hotel include Messrs G. Rankin (Auckland), D. Mann, (Wellington), and. K. Norman (Christchurch). Mr J. Miller and Mr H. Hammond are shortly leaving for Sydney, where they intend studying for their architectural examinations. Mr G. IT. Martin, of Hamilton, is visiting Wanganui. He returns to the Waikato on Saturday. Mr md Mrs A. E. Halligan, of Wanganui, are at present in Melbourne, after having toured England and the Continent. They return to New Zealand in March. The following guests are at present staying at Foster’s Hotel:—Messrs W. Higgins, J. Lancaster, J. B. Parker, A. B. Pownall (Wellington), A. Murdock (Dunedin), J. W. Stephens (London), Colonel Symonds (London), Mr and Mrs P. B. Gilmour. J. G. Longuet, K.. V. Sharp, E. McAllister (Stratford), H. J. Farmer (New Plymouth), Mr and Mrs C. M. Browne. C. F. Browne. Allen E. Browne, and R. B. Scott (Auckland). The Governor-General inspected the territorials’ big military camp at Hopuhopu, near Ngaruawahia yesterday morning. The vice-regal party left later for Rotorua and a tour of East Coast centres. On arrival at Rotorua the visitors were received by the Mayor and Councillors and officers of the Tourist Department. The official and civic reception takes place in the Government Gardens to-day.

Mr J. Anderson, of Wanganui East Tennis Club, won the men’s championship singles at the recent Nelson Tennis Tournament. Messrs Pownall and Anderson reached the final of the handicap singles, and will play off the final in Wanganui. From this it will be seen that the Wanganui contingent, comprising Messrs Swanger, Pownall, Billows and Anderson, met with a fair measure of success.

A pleasant function was held in the Wanganui Rowing Club’s sheds on Tuesday evening, when a large gathering assembled for the purpose of bidding farewell to Mr Frank Everett, who is taking his departure at the end of the week for Sydney. Air Everett has been the popular secretary of the Rowing Club, and ho will carry away with him the best wishes of his many friends in Wanganui. During the course of the evening occasion was taken to make him the recipient of a wristlet watch, the gift of the club members, and a travelling bag from his other friends in the city. Appropriate speeches were made by Mr C. V. Powell, president of the Wanganui Rowing Club, and Air D. Lovegrove, and eulogistic reference was made to the departing guest, who was wished God-speed, and every success, happiness and prosperity in his new sphere.
