AMUSEMENTS, MEETINGS, ETC.

THE GRAND THEATRE. COMPLETE CHANGE TO-DAY. BUCK JONES IN “DURAND OF THE BAD LANDS.” Buck Jones’ latest starring picture, “Durand of the Bad- Lands, ” which opens to-day and to-night at The Grand Theatre, is undoubtedly the best western thriller that this hard-riding cowboy has made. Directed by Lynn Reynolds, maker of “The Lone Star Ranger” and “The Deadwood Coach.” this production fairly breathes the spirit of the West and is full of action, pathos and humour, from the first title to the fadeout. The story, by Maibelle Heikes Justice, involves an alleged outlaw and the daughter of a desert recluse. Into this pretty romance is injected the menace of an unscrupulous sheriff, a gold robbery and other intrigue. While some of the incidents savour of other western productions, the treatment has a freshness and originality that holds the spectators’ attention throughout. Marian Nixon, sweet and demure as ever, gives a splendid interpretation of the daughter of the desert. Malcolm Waite, as the sheriff, is satisfactory. Others in the cast are Fred De Silva, Luke Cosgrove, George Lessley, Buck Black, Seesel Ann Johnson, James Corrigan and Carol Lombard. The supporting pictures are all new and include Fox comedy, “Love and Lions” Fox news, Fox variety and new stunts by Albertine. The Grand new orchestra will delight patrons of this popular theatre with latest musical gems. The plan for the four nights’ season is open at ; Moore’s Sweet Shop opposite Theatre.
