SPEEDBOAT FOR AUCKLAND MISS VIRGINIA AND J. & J. WANGANUI RIVER CHALLENGES WAITEMATA. The Wanganui speed boate, Miss Virginia and J & J, are off to Auckland this week to compete in the speed boat championships next Friday. It is significant of the rapid advancement, of this class of aquatic racing on local waters that. Auckland launch circles seriously fear the Wanganui contenders for the Masport Cup and the New Zealand speedboat championship title. Originally the championship this year was to have been held at Dunedin, but Otago was unable to put up a contender, and the event will now be decided at Auckland. Only Wanganui will challenge Auckland’s supremacy, but in well-informed quarters it is considered that, the challenge is a serious one. That smart craft Miss Virginia was hoisted from the river yesterday, in the presence of many onlookers, to be trucked to Auckland. Her owner, Mr. A. Hatriek, is going north with her. Messrs Aiderton’s J & J, which accomplished such sensational timing in recent local races, was railed to Auckland last week.
