SALE HELD YESTERDAY. ADVANCE IN FAT SHEEP. fPer Press Association.] DUNEDIN, Dec. 22. The stock sale at Burnside, which was a double market on account of the Christmas holidays, was held to-day, which is a day earlier than usual. Fat sheep were in indifferent supply, as also were pigs, but fat cattle and fat lambs were plentiful. Fat Cattle. —There was an entry of 234 head, compared with 334 last week Some prime bullocks were in evidence while medium steers were not inconspicuous, and there was also a fair number of prime cows. The demand at the opening was slack for inferior quality beasts and good sorts brought prices barely on a par with the previous week’s rates. However, the sale brightened towards the close. There was no quotable change in prices. Prime handyweight bullocks were worth from 40s to 43s per 1001 b., prime heavyweight bullocks, from 37s 6d to 39s 6d per 1001 b.; prime heifers, to 355, and cows and light heifers from 22s 6d to 30s; prime bullocks made from £l6 to £lB 10s; heifers from £6 7s 6d to £lO ss; cows from £5 15s to £9 15s.

Fat Sheep.—There were 1121 penned, compared ■with 2229 head last week. The selection was wide, generally of good quality, all but a few pennings being shorn. The sale was good, though values were somewhat irregular and mostly Is 6d to 2s 6d (in places more) in advance of last week’s prices. At the close of the sale prices were slightly easier. Comparatively few ewes were penned. Woolly wethers made up to 535, and shorn wethers to 48s 6d; prime wethers sold on a basis of from 5M to GAd; medium quality from s.}d to 6d; prime ewes 4-}d to sd, and aged and light ewes to 4(1; woolly wethers made from 42s to 535; . extra prime heavy shorn wethers, 45s to 48s 6d; prime, 34s to 395; ewes, 27s |to 32s 6d. !
