POLLING FIGURES
ANNOUNCING RESULTS DISPLAY AT COOK’S GARDENS POPULAR BAND CONCERT TO-NIGHT. Tn order to ensure the rapid announcement to-night of election result* from all parts of the Dominion, the “Chronicle” has arranged for a display at Cook’s Gardens. The large results board which is being erected will face the seats on the bank, so that a very large crowd will be able to see the board in comfort. Complete preparations have been made to obtain progress reports of the counting by wireless, urgent telegram, and urgent telephone, and all the information thus available will be continuously before the public. Returns will be shown for each electorate in the Dominion, and in the case of Wanganui the figures for each polling booth will he displayed. A record of the position of the parties will be kept, and the results of the Dominion licensing poll will also be shown. To aid those who desire to keep records for themselves, “scoring cards” will be distributed, on which it will only be necessary to fill in the figures in order to have a full record of the polling. As the polling in rural electorates closes at 6 o’clock, it is probable that the first progress returns will he available by 7 o’clock, and from then on announcements will be made quickly. The Queen Alexandra Band will play a specially selected programme during the evening, and will take up a collection in aid of its contest fund. For the convenience of country residents who desire to obtain information about the progress of the polling a special telephone, No. 3034, has been installed. Inquirers are asked to dia’ that number, and not to ask for results through either of the JXChroniclc’a ” regular telephones.
