LOSS OF AN EYE
YOUNG WORKER INJURED. AN EAST TOWN MISHAP. As the result of an accident at the East Town Workshops yesterday afternoon, Nelson John Green, aged 20, of 100 Glasgow Street, suffered iujunries which necessitated his removal to the Wanganui Hospital. Green and a workmate were using a side-set for removing rivets when, owing apparently to some Haw in the steel, a small piece flew off the head of the instrument, striking Green, with considerable force, across the right eye. It was at once seen that serious injury had been sustained and the sufferer, after being attended to by members of the East Town Division of the St. John Ambulance Brigade, was con-i veyed to the Hospital.
After examination of the eye ny specialists at the Hospital an operation was decided upon and the eyelid was stitched up, Green unfortunately having to lose the sight of the right eye. On enquiry at a late hour last night it was ascertained that the patient was progressing favourably. Green has been employed at the ’shops for some four years. He is a Member of the Aramoho Boating Club.
