MAGIC OF BEAR’S GREASE Belief in the efficacy of bear’s grease for the cure of baldness seems to have lingered among Londoners?until (piite recent times. An old South Londoner tells in his reminiscences how in his boyhood days, some seventy years ago, so-called bear’s grease was sold in little pots. Ono hairdresser in Walworth Road used to announce periodically “the slaughter of another fine bear,” exhibiting a canvas screen depicting in glaring colours a brown animal of elephantine proportions expiring in a sea of gore.
