AN INFANT’S DEATH. [Per Press Association.] AUCKLAND, Oct. 30. The loss of a 14 clays’ old baby girl, the daughter of Mr and Mrs F. W. Scott, of Papakura, was the subject of an inquest. Evidence was given that the mother had just returned with the child from a nursing home. She took the baby into bed with her. She fed

it about 4 a.m., but about 5 a.m. woke up to find the child dead. Dr. Pago said that in his opinion death was due to suffocation, the baby having evidently been smothered.

A verdict of accidental death was returned.
