MOURN AND REJOICE

MEANING OF ARMISTICE DAY. EARL HAIG’S VIEW. LONDON, Oct. 28. The much-discussed ■ question of whether Armistice Day should be celebrated only as a remembrance of the glorious dead or as a day of rejoicing for victory and peace is ag-ain to the fore. Earl Haig telegraphed to the ‘‘Daily Express”: ‘‘l recommend that Armistice Day be observed throughout the Empire as a day of remembrance in the forenoon. People, of all ages should attend a thanksgiving service with a piarado of veterans at the local memorial. In the afternoon games suited to the climate should be played and in the evening people should rejoice according to their taste.”
