ASKED FOR

AND RECEIVED ME. VILE ’ S PAMPHLET. FURTHER STATEMENT BY, AUTHOR. (Special to “Chronicle.”) OAMARU, Oct. 28. In reference to statements made bT Messrs Gr. W. Forbes and W. A. Veitch regarding the pamphlet issued in 1922 by the organiser of the Liberal-Labour Party ana afterwards repudiated, Mr Vile says: “When I was organiser of the Liberal-Labour Party I dealt only with Messrs Wilford and Veitch. I di? not know either Mr Forbes or Ml Sidey. If Messrs Forbes and Side? state that they were not consulted rd garding the publication of the pamph let, then all I can say is that their col leagues on the executive did not tak( them into their confidence. “The advance printed pamphlet al sent to members of the House contained the words, as Mr Forbes alleges, ‘Witl the compliments of A. H. Vile, organ* iser of the Liberal-Labour Party? This should be evidence in itself that the pamphlet was issued by me as organiser of the party. If further evidence were wanted it can be found in the books of J. L. Young, Ltd., of Palmerston North, where the cost of the pamphlet was entered against the Lib-eral-Labour Party. “But it will be noticed that Mr Veitch does not deny that the pamphlet was issued by the authority of the party. As a matter of fact, Mr Veitcl and Mr Wilford both had the manw script in their possession some days be fore it was returned to me for publics tion. I assure Mr Veitch that I havi no grievance rankling in my mind. 1 washed my hands of the Liberal Party when the leaders repudiated a pamphlet which they had read in the manuscript and authorised. lam not using the pamphlet for the purpose of hitting Mr Macpherson or anybody else, and I do not require gratuitous advice from Mr Veitch on the ethics of sportsmanship and British fair play. Had the friends of Mr Macpherson not adopted the dubious course of publishing extracts from the pamphlet with the object of endeavouring to discredit me ?n the eyes of the public, I should not have considered it incumbent upon myself to disclose the facts, particularly as Mr Wilford is out of the country. “The Nationalists have asked for it. They have got it."
