A Brisbane cable message reports the death of Lottie Sargent, the lactress.

Mr and Mrs C. F. Millward, who have been on an extended trip to the Old Country, are due in Wellington tomorrow by the Rotorua.

Mr A. W. J. Peacock, the newly appointed district accountant at the local Public Trust Office, has taken up his duties here. Mr Forysth, his predecessor, left yesterday for Dannevirke, where he has been appointed District Public Trustee.

The death occurred at Buckland a few days ago of Mr H. J. Lo Bailly, who was for several years secretary of the Congregational Union of New Zealand. He was born at St. Holier, Jersey Island, and was a direct descendant of the Huguenots who were driven from France by the revocation of the Edict of Nantes on October 9, 1685. A strange coincidence was that he died on the 240th anniversary of that revolution.

Mr Andrew Thompson, whose funeral took place yesterday afternoon, was a very well-known figure in Wanganui business circles and in public life. As a building contractor he could be relied upon for sound workmanship in whatever he handled, and he was universally esteemed. He was for years a member of the Borough Council, and he was also keenly interested In education. Mr Thompson’s wife predeceased him some years ago, and he leaves a young family. Prior to his death, Mr Thompson had been in a bad state of "health for some time.

Mr B. C.‘Symes, who is well known in Wanganui, has been appointed to the superintendency staff of the A.M.P. Society at Palmerston North. Mr Symes, who for the last three and ahalf years has been attached to the industrial agency staff of that centre, has proved most successful, having, during this period, procured a greater number of premier positions for new business writing that any other agent of the Society in New Zealand. At a happy little gathering of the staff ano agents held at the home of the district manager, Mr C. Ennes, Mr Symes was made the recipient of a presentation tn recognition of his appointment.
