BULLS.

“IN THE PALACE OF THE KING.” TO-MORROAV NIGHT AT BULLS. (From the “Chronicle’s” Special Correspondent.) In Hollywood less than a month, Jeanne de Balzftc, great-grand niece of Honore de Balzac, the famous French author, already had appeared in two pictures. The first was “Slave of Desire,” and the second was “In the Palace of the King,” the Emmett Flynn production which will be shown ftt Bulls Town Hall to-morrow night. Mme de Balzac went to Los Angeles to help in the production of “Slave of Desire,” taken from a novel by her famous uncle, but consented to play a small part in Flynn’s picture, becaur s/he had travelled so extensively in Spain.

Mme. de Balzac will be seen as a Castilliftn countess, one of the members of the royal court of King Philip 11., in which the story, “In the Palace of the King,” is set. BOXING. On Tuesday evening last there was a big attendance at the Anglican Sunday schoolroom, the occasion being the end of the term of the local boxing school. There were several interesting bouts by the pupils, and the good showing made by them greatly pleased the audience.

The following participated in the bouts:—P. Morse v. Johnson Hunia; C. Forbes v. Tapp; Bill Gray v. J. Meads; C. Wereta v. Tom Souter; Boy Ford v. S. McPherson; and the juveniles, "Slogger" Forbes and "Curly" Steere, gave a good display. During the evening the opportunity was taken by Mr H. McManaway to present the medals won by the boys at the recent Wanganui tournament. Two medals were presented to Bill Gray (Wanganui), winner of the light-weight contest and the most scientific boxer; J. Meads, welter-weight; Alan Pick, welter-weight; Bert Meads, most improved boxer in the Bulls school (Mr McManaway’s medal). The juvenile-?, Forbes and Steere, were also the recipients of medals. At this stage of the programme, and on account of the enthusiasm shown in boxing locally, it was decided to form a Boxing Association, to be called the Rangitikei Boxing Association. The election of officers resulted: President, Mr H. McManaway; vice-presidents. Messrs W. Kearney, J. B. Gaisford, B. Frecklington, E. V. Wilson, S. Steere, C. Price, V. Edhouse, E. Morse, Rev. Jones and Dr. Watson; committee, Messrs J. and Bert Meads, Forbes, Wereta and Carlyle; secretary and treasurer, Mr G. W. Hart. The secretary was instructed to write to the New Zealand Boxing Association for particulars with regard to affiliation with the parent body. Mr J. B. Gaisford donated £5 for medals, and Messrs B. Frecklington and 8. Steere also offered medals for competitions. The competitions were left in the hands of the committee to decide. The meeting closed with a heartyvote of thanks to Rev. Jones for the use of the schoolroom for the classes. GENERAL NEWS.

A joke that caused endless amusement was put over by a well-known local resident on Wednesday evening, while a large crowd were assembled outside the Public Library, waiting for the Prime Minister to arrive from Marton. It happened that the arrival was somewhat overdue, and the crowd was watching for signs of the car. It was here that the joke-maker seized his opportunity. Presently, bright headlights were seen, and it -was not long before a big and handsome car pulled up at the library. The crowd immediately closed around it, and hats were removed ready for a rousing cheer. The door of the car opened, and out stepped a one-time well-known jockey. To use a familiar term it "brought the house down."
