SURGEONS IN CONFERENCE
ADVANCE IN ANTISEPTICS. VALUABLE INFORMATION. Received October 28, 8.30 p.m. NEW YORK, Oct. 28. At the convention of surgeons at Philadelphia, Dr. Hugh M. Young, of the John Hopkins Aledical College, chairman of tho American College of Surgeons’ Committee, speaking of antiseptics, explained how the blood stream was purified by injections called digermicides. Injections of mcrchurochrome had been successful in the treatment of pneumonia, erysipelas and even leprosy. The war had been responsible for progress in antiseptic surgery and the discovery of antiseptics to kill germs with out destroying tissue by injection into blood or tissue. Figures showed that in forty years operations had increased from 3 per cent, to 70 per cent, in all hospital cases.
