AN OPEN LETTER TO MR W. A. VEITCH

Sir, —In last evening’s edition of the “Wanganui Herald” appears the following:—“Mr. W. A. Veitch visited Imlay Freezing Works to-day and addressed an informal meeting. The candidate had a very cordial reception. He mentioned that Mr. Coull had been credited with making a statement at Castlecliff last night to the effect that the members of Mr. Veitch’s party were ‘ twisters.’ Mr. Veitch accepted the statement as an unwarranted insult to himself and the members of his party. He would challenge Mr. Coull or any other member of the Reform Party from the Prime Minister downwards to debate the matter on the public platform, when he would undertake to satisfy the audience that all the members of his party had proved themselves to be serious fend responsible men.’’ I beg to accept your challenge; in fact I have much pleasure in doing so. I find that you have booked the Opera House for Tuesday, November ,3. I shall be present at the Opera House on that evening, land at 8 o’clock from the stage of the Opera House I will be pleased to debate the question. I would suggest that his Worship the Mayor take the chair.—l am., etc., JOHN COULL Wanganui, Oct. 27.
