MR. VILE’S STATEMENT
REPLY BY MR. FORBES. DUNEDIN, Oct. 28. The somewhat sensational statements made by Mr. "A. H. Vile, editor of the “North Otago Times’ 1 concerning a pamphlet be had used three years ago as Liberal-Labour organiser, were denied by Mr. Forbes, who passed through Dunedin yesterday. Mr. Vile states that the pamphlet was approved by Mr. Wilford in writing, and Mr. Veitch led him to understand that the executive was delighted with the publication, yet when a member of the House, now a Minister, challenged tho pamphlet Mr. Wilford repudiated it, stating that it was unauthorised, and later wired to Mr. Vile stating that ho i was compelled to pursue that course J because certain references to the wheat I subsidy might jeopardise Mr. Witty’s ! seat.
Messrs Forbes. Veitch, and Sidey state that the pamphlet was never submitted to the executive, and when Mr. Forbes read it he at once saw Mr. Wilford and informed him that it was unauthorised and objected to it. Mr. Wilford said that the pamphlet whs unauthorised, and had wired that Mr. Vile must cut out anything officially connecting tho party with it. So far as he understood, Mr. Vile had issued tho pamplet on his own initiative.
