LEVEL CROSSING AGAIN
SENSATIONAL ACCIDENT. UNUSUAL CIRCUMSTANCES. [Per Press Association.] AUCKLAND, Oct. 27. r £he second express from Auckland ran; into a horse and gig at Taupiri crossing at 10.30 to-night, killing the hor.ie outright, as well as smashing the vrh kle to pieces. The gig was being driven by John Bishop, a farmer, of Taupiri, who was accompanied by Mrs Bishop. The horse had been pulled up by Mir Bishop in order to allow the exwress, which he heard approaching, to fegotilate the crossing, when the animal tipcame frightened and made for the liiwe. The train was travelling at a good pacn and crashed into the animal throwing the gig aside and hurling the occnpaitts out.
Dr. Ifcdale, of Ngaruawahia. was immediately summoned. An examination shciwcd Bishop to be unhurt, although he had suffered from severe shock. Mrs Bishop was seriously injured, aikl was removed to Hamilton Hospital by ambulance.
