MOTOR-CYCLING

FOXTON UNITED SPORTS ASSOCIATION SUCCESSFUL INAUGURAL MEETING. A record crowd attended the abovo club’s inaugural meeting du the Faxton Racecourse on Monday (Labour Day) and twenty-eight riders took part in the racing, including Pl Coleman and D. Managh. Unfortunately, hfter the first race a drizzling rain fell, which made the course very slippery, with the result that in the second race Grinstead was the only rider out of fourteen starters who negotiated the course without a mishap. However, for the third race the course had greatly improved and very few mishaps occurred. Great interest was taken in the sport, and it is confidently anticipated that the Foxton Club’s fixture will become a very popular one. The officials worked hard to make the meeting a success, under the adverse circumstances, and are to be congratulated on their first venture.

Mr E. C. Gaisford acted as handicapper, and a number of the Manawatu and Feilding Motor Club’s officials gave great assistance in the management. E. W. Pinfold, of Palmerston North, had a day out on his push bicycle, cleaning up the four races in great style, a low-geared machine being of great Service. Light Weight Handicap, 5 miles. S. J. The race was a chapter of stoppages, first one machine and then another “honking’’ out on account of the slippery state of the track. Grinstead, however, stuck to it gallantly, and, negotiating the corners like a tradesman, he got a clean run throughout and won with a lot to spare. The winner’s machine was the only one that did not meet with a stoppage. Time, 13$mins.
