ELECTIONEERING JOYS
CANDIDATE’S ROUGH TRIE IN A LAUNCH. SIXTEEN-MILE WALK OVER HILLS. [Per Press Association.] BLENHEIM, Oct. 26. A full share of the difficulties of campaigning was experienced by Mr W. •T. Girling, Government candidate for Wairau, on Saturday. Mr Girling and party set out in a launch on an electioneering tour to Port Underwood, but shortly after starting a fierce southerly ’gale sprang up and the party had a rough experience,'being soused with sea water, while some were seasick until a landing was effected at Ocean Bay. iFroni this points, as there was not a hope of the launch facing the storm, the party had to tramp sixteen miles over steep mountain tracks until they reached Rarangi at the end of Cloudy Bay, where a car returned them to Blenheim. Tracks were in execrable condition owing to slips and overgrowth, and Mr Girling and the other members of the party were in the last stages of exhaustion when Rarangi was sighted, and had to be assisted over the steep zig-zag, by means of which the track finds its way to the beach at Rarangi.
