MR. BALDWIN’S TEAM
“I’M ONLY THE SKIPPER”
MR CHURCHILL AS WICKETKEEPER LONDON, Oct. 23. Mr Baldwin, in a speech at Colchester, referring to the Ministry, declared: “Our team is doing good work. 1 am merely the skipper. Tho team has no tail, but can bat right down to tho eleventh man. Mr Chamberlain has returned from the miracle of Locarno, which represents one of the best centuries ever made on a sticky wicket. Mr Churchill, as wicket-keeper, can be relied upon to catch every sixpence.” The last remark was a reference to Mr Churchill’s hint as to the possibility of re-imposing a portion of reduced taxation. BRITAIN’S RESOURCES HEAVIER TAXATION FORESHADOWED LONDON, Oct. 23. Mr Churchill foreshadows the restoration of portion of the taxation taken off in the Budget if tho Economy Committee presided over by Mr Baldwin did not reap the hoped-for harvest.
