A Baltimore message states that Britain’s so called “mystery plane,” the super-marine Napier S 4, was completely wrecked when fa series of wing flutters and side-slips during a preliminary havigibility trial in connection with the Jacques Schneider international seaplane trophy led to a nose dive into Chesapeake Bay, after which it turned over. The pilot, Capt. Henry Baird, wearing a life-belt, clefcred the wreckage as it sank. A brother pilot, Capt. Hubert Broad, tossed a second life-belt from his plane, after which a patrol boat rescued Capt. Baird who was dazed, and unable to explfcin the occurrence. Capt Baird is in bed, the doctors fearing pneumonia. He had been ill for several days and only left bed daily to fly a few minutes.

serve pilot of the British Schneider Cup team, will be given a chance to take his Gloster-Napier sefcplane into the international race on Saturday, when five opposing American and Italian pilots signed a petition asking that ho be allowed to qualify before the race. Referee Ericson agreed. If Hinkler qualifies, his plane will bo the substitute for the super-marine Napier S 4, which crashed on Friday. BRITAIN’S LOST HOPE HINKLER FAILS.
