ATHLETICS

SATURDAY’S BIG ATTRACTION COMBINED SPORTS ON COOK'S GARDENS. The weather cleared up beautifully on Saturday afternoon for the combined schools’ sports and amateur athletic carnival, conducted on Cook’s Gardens, although a keen wind swept across the oval and made matters uncomfortable late in the day. Considerable interest was manifested in the various events. Children' were in their glory as they cheered and urged to victory their representatives on the green sward. All the events were evenly contested and some fine finishes were witnessed. In the amateur events some good times were recorded. Owing to the efficiency of the starter and handicapper (Mr Geo. Benson), this particular section of the events went off without a single hitch, and the finishes presented the judges with difficult tasks. The School Championship Banner was carried off by Gonville School with 25 points, while Queen ’s Park was a close second with 21 points. Aramoho secured third place with ten points.
