KIWITEA COUNTY COUNCIL.

The Kiwitea County Council met at Kimbolton on Wednesday, Cr. L. T. McLean presiding. There were .also present: Crs. W. P. Shaw, D. H. McLean, F. O. Stack, J. A. T. Brown, W. Hair, N. V. Shannon, and T. D. Wood. Correspondence. From Mr .J. T. Brazier, requestjng that the portion of Haggerty Street, Kimbolton, leading to his property be metalled.—Deferred. From Mr G. Salt, requesting the erection of an outbuilding on Council’s property in Upper Kawhatau Valley.— Granted. From assistant rabbit inspector, Rewa, requesting that the fern and scrub along Mangapipi Road and at Rewa be cut and burned.—Held over for inquiry. From the superintendent State Advances Office, advising that there was no prospect of Council’s applications for loans being considered for some time.—Received. From district engineer Public Works Department, advising that the sum of £3OO, allocated towards cost of erecting a bridge over the Mangoira could not be increased unless Council was prepared to forego some other grants'-‘or portion of them. —Decided to apply for permission to divert this grant for work on Mania Road. From the accountant Public Works Department, forwarding authority for the expenditure of £637 on maintenance of Main Highway from Cheltenham to Mangaweka bridge.—Received. From clerk, Pohangina County Council, advising*that Council agreed to certain clauses in Council’s circular re administration of public hospitals.—Received. Overseer’s Reports. The County Overseer reported as follows: Cheltenham.—The rolling and scarifying of Kimbolton Road has been completed and the secion of the road from Hayne’s line to Cheltenham repaired with metal and trimmed* with the grader. The total quantity of metal carted* to date in this riding is: Kimbolton Road, 795 cubic yards; Cheltenham cross road,’ 39 cubic yards. surfaceman is at present engaged repairing potholes on McKay's line and Beaconsfield Valley Road. Levett’s Line will be put in order at an early date. Slips have been removed off Barrow’s Line and culverts and watertables cleaned out. Kiwitea.—The rolling and scarifying of Kimbolton Road has been completed; The section of Kimbolton Road from near Bryce's Line to Kimbolton town' shop has been patched and will be trim? med. , Waituna.—The usual surface work has received attention and slips removed off Mangapipi Road. The section of road from Rewa store to the hall will be widened in the near future. Ongo.—The surfaceman has been attending to watertables and the usual surface work throughout the riding; Potholes have been repaired on Wil; liamson’s Road west and Parorangi Road. The necessary timber for erecting a new fence on Waituna cemetery reserve is now to hand. Kimbolton. —The road in Kimbolton township has been scarified and rolled. Potholes have been patched with metal from the township to the junction of Apiti Road. The grader plant is now working in this riding and it is hoped to have all roads in first-class order before the end of the month. Slips have been removed off the branch road and slips will be removed and the washout repaired on the Junction Road’ near Kiwitea stream. Peep-o’-Day. —The surfaceman has been attending to usual surface work throughout the riding; also the cutting back of fern and scrub and the removal of small slips. Pakihikura.—An old wooden culvert on the Waipuru Road partly. collapsed and temporary repairs have been effected. The cement pipes to replace it are on the site. The roads through Sandon Block ore showing the effects of bad weather and it is hoped to carry out .some repairs with the lorry on, these roads shortly. Rangiwahia.—Potholes have been at- ( tended to on Main, Whare, and Te Para Para Roads. Slips are causing a lot of trouble in the Mangoira Gorge on the Main South Road. Hautapu.—The wet weather in thd early part of the month caused a lot of damage. The extra casual labour put on some time ago to improve the roads has been utilised in helping clear away the slips, and., practically no improvements have been made thig month. The same thing applies to the other ridings. On Mangakukeke Road in Upper Kawhatau three cement pipes

have been put in to replace old wooden culverts; also a set on the Main Road. A further fifty yards of screened metal is now ready for the Cliff Road (Wilson’s). Repairs have been effected to the State farm road. A portion of Lagoon Road slipped away and had to be widened and remetalled. On Mangawharariki Road a further quantity of river metal has been carted out and the greater part stacked in convenient heaps ready for use when required.— Adopted.
