AN AMAZING ACHIEVEMENT. SINKING SHIP IN HURRICANE. RESCUER STANDS BY ALL NIGHT. NEW YORK, Oct. 21. The Italian freighter Ignazio Florio was (abandoned, sinking when twentyseven of the crew were removed after an amazing rescue by the steamer President Harding. The latter stood by all night, unable to assist because of tho high seas and hurricane. The seas moderated sufficiently in the morning, however, to allow lifeboats to approach the derelict, oil being used to smooth the seas. All tho Ignazio Florio’s lifeboats wore smashed and tho rudder torn awav.
