WHAKATANE FLOODS
NEW OUTLET NEEDED (Per Press Association.) WHAKATANE, July 25. The Rangitaiki River is again in full flood and has inundated over 10,000 acres of the plains. All the stock was taken away in time and the settlers left their homesteads before the water surrounded the houses. The Kopeopco dredge cut which runs into the Whakatane River is at present five feet higher than the level of that river owing to the smallness of the floodgates. Three floods have been experienced in two months and show the urgent need of another outlet to the Whakatane River mouths, which has always been advocated by the settlers aud which would carry off quickly the flood waters of both the Rangitaiki and Whakatane rivers.
