SHEEPSKINS, HIDES AND TALLOW SALES.
The usual fortnightly sale of sheepskins, hides and tallow was held at Wellington on Friday by all brokers. There was a full attendance of exporters. tanners, fcUmongers and the local trade. Sheepskins.—Competition was very keen and prices for skins suitable for export wore fully 3d per lb better than late rates. Other descriptions sold about on a par. Salties were in demand. Hides.—Average catalogues wore submitted, medium and lightweights being eagerly competed for. Heavies -Jd to Ad per lb down, mediums on a par, while lightweights were better by from par to ’id. Calf, kip and yearlings ruled unchanged. Tallow.—Good competition for shipping lots, the market showing a slight improvement. For a line of butchers’ tallow 35s per cwt. was secured. The following is the range of prices:— Sheepskins.—Halfbred, 12 Ad, fine ■crossbred, JO:?d to l-Ud; mediuin/coarse crossbred, 9Ad to Hid; short halfwool, Bj|d to Lljd; lambs, 73d to 73d; dead and damaged crossbred, 7Jd to JOAd; inferior and badly damaged. Id to 8d; pelts, 3d to 9}d; damp, salted ( and green, 5s to 10s 4d; pelts, salted,' not quoted; lambs, salted, 5s to 7s 6d. Hides.—Ox, heavy, 701 b and over, 8(1 to 9Ad; ox, heavy, 59/691b, 8d to 9}d; ox, medium, 53/581b, 6Ad to BAd; ox, light, 45/521b, 6Ad to 7Ad; cut, slippy and inferior, 3Ad to 7;d; cow, heavy, 531 b and ovkt, 6§d to 7d; cow, medium, 45/521b, 6gd to GJd; cow, light, 33/441b 6Ad to 71d; cut, slippy and inferior, 3d to s§d; bull, stag, not quoted; yearling, 11/161b, 5Ad to B§d; calf, superior, up to 101 b, not quoted; calf, medium/good, up to 101 b, lid to 13Ad; calf, damaged, up to 101 b, 3d to 11 Ad. Tallow.—ln caskc, 32s to 355; in tins, etc.. 17s to 30s fid. Sundries.—Horsehair, 20d to 23d.
