A LaIbouritc, Mr Riley, drew attention to the. 'fact that the notices to enforce reductions in wages on 200,000 textile opera--1 lives in Yorkshire expired on the 23rd. 'that the operatives’ unions declined to 'accept, the reduction and failing an [agreement to withdraw 7 the notices • these operatives were likely to strike. ' Sir A. Steel Maitland, in reply, said he bad written to both sides suggesting that they hold a further meeting with the view 7 to avoiding strife.
