WAVERLEY.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) Quite the most popular annual function held in this district is the R.S.A. ball, and the one last evening proved no exception, the gathering being a brilliant success. The public of Wavcrley stands solidly behind the R.S.A., and the “fighting unit’' can claim a splendid reserve force. The weather was not kind, hut what of that! The ball was all that could be desired, and the four hundred people who attended were loud in praise of the committees responsible for the arrangements. A special word is due to the ladies’ committee for the artistry displayed in the decorative work as well as for the supper, the like of which is rarely seen in city functions. The hall was tastefully bedecked with streamers and these, with the winter effects, interspersed with hundreds of coloured balloons, made a fine kaleidoscopic effect. The Queen Alexandra Band, conducted by Lieut. Buckley, generously contributed delightful music for the evening. This is typical of the fine spirit often demonstrated bv Mr. G. Bucklev.

The ball, needless to say, proved a grand financial success, somewhere in the vicinity of £BO being cleared. This result is due in a great measure to the ability and keenness of the R.S.A. ladies’ committee. An altogether charming function owed much of its brilliance to the great variety of dresses, many being of distinctive design.
