AMUSEMENTS, MEETINGS, ETC.

HIS MAJESTY’S CLAUDE DAMPIER A huge audience enjoyed every minute of the programme at His Majesty’s Theatre last night. Claude Dampier and his charming partner Hilda Attenboro kept the audience in roars of laughter. Claude Dampier appears in a very abreviated costume in readiness for a fancy dress ball, and from the moment h cappears he sets his audience laughing. His clever nonsense as a typical type of brainless silly ass is really refreshing. We have seen many comedians but he has a style of his own. He has just returned from a successful tour throughout Britain, South Africa, and Australia and has a budget of new jests. The picture programme is headed by “On Time,” a Universal release. “On Time” is a fascinating melodrama with enough of every sort of the factors that go to make up positive entertainment value, so that it will have an appeal for everyone. There are thrills galore. The laughter caused is incessant throughout the play; in the first place the titles are extremely funny and well-written and, secondly, the action is uproariously comical in all places where the melodrama action lets down. The comedy is “Family Life,” a Mermaid production, which kept the audience in one continual roar of laughter. The remaining supports are “The Tango,” a particularly interesting dancing picture and a Pa’the Gazette.
