THE LATE MR. H. V. DUIGAN
Feeling reference was made at the meeting of the Board of Directors of the Herald on Friday last to the death of Mr. H. V. Duigan. Mr. W. J. Treadwell said that before pro ceeding with the ordinary business he desired to refer to the irreparable loss the company had sustained through the removal by death of the company’s manager,. Mr. H- V. Duigan. During the many years Mr. Duigan had occupied the position of manager he had discharged his duties with energy, tact, and great capability. The success of the company was in large measure due to his untiring efforts. His great aim was to further the company’s interests. That he succeeded tne shareholders well know. Mr. Duigan was held in the highest esteem—he might say, affection—of the directors, the staff, and all whose duties brought them into contact with him. He moved: ’’That this meeting of directors place on record its high appreciation of the services rendered to the company by the late Mr. Duigan, and expresses its deepest sympathy with his widow and relatives in their great sorrow.” Mr. F. Webb-Jones, in seconding the motion, endorsed the heartfelt sentiments expressed .by Mr. Tread well who had truly said that the late Mr. Duigan had not only won the respect and kindly regard of all who knew him but had endeared himself by ties of affection to those with whom he was more intimately associated. As one of those who had close business and personal relationships on the Herald staff with deceased extending over a period of twentv years, during half of which he had been manager, Mr. Webb-Jones said ho desired to add his testimony to the. high esteem and affection in which Mr. Duigan was held by his fellow employees. He was devoted to his duty, took the keenest inter, est in furthering the interests of the Herald Company, and had devoted close study to the various aspects of newspaper work. The companionship of the Herald joined sincerely in the expressions of affectionate respect to the memory of their manager and of sympathy with the sorrowing wife and other relatives.
